The McDowell
CJPP is excited to now have a web page. We look forward
to people learning more about us and having an easier
way of finding CJPP information.
"The Division
of Community Corrections accepts the tremendous
challenge of providing cost-effective supervision
to all criminal offenders returned to our communities.
'Structured Sentencing' and our 'Community Correction
Strategy' are steps that have been taken to aggressively
overhaul a criminal justice system that was in
crisis in the '80s and early '90s. To improve
our ability to protect society as sworn officers
of the court, we strive to provide an equal balance
of control and treatment over offenders serving
out their sentences in the communities of North
Carolina."
Robert
Lee Guy, Director
Division of Community Corrections
In conjunction with the passage of
Structured Sentencing, the General Assembly also enacted
the State-County Criminal Justice Partnership Act to establish
community-based correction programs. By statute, the Department
of Correction awards community corrections grants to counties
which voluntarily apply for funding.
